Day 7 (March 26): Garbage - Control

Image result for garbage not your kind of peopleHappy birthday to me.

Yeah, quarantine-birthdays aren't the best. I got a cinema voucher I can't use for months (Mum and Dad, I appreciate the gift, I swear, it's just symbolic), and I'm still laughing at the fact that two weeks ago I thought I might still be able to go into London for dinner. Hey, in another life, I was seeing Sam Fender and Gang of Youths at Ally Pally tonight. Ah, well. Such is corona life.

Still, why complain about the present? The past is alright. For today's song, entirely unrelated to anything birthday-centric, I have dipped into the mists of time and brought from them a song with weird-ass significance.

'Control', from Garbage's 2012 album Not Your Kind of People, is just another late-game pop-punk effort for most. Not so for me. For me, this is special. Why is it special? Because, of course, it was used in the launch trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man's tie-in game. I believe it was a trendy song at the time.

I see you rolling your eyes, but The Amazing Spider-Man for Xbox 360 was alright, I swear! None of your fancy-pants actually-good Spider-Man PS4, mind, but a semi-decent open-world, very, very easy to use webslinging and a story that 13 year old Louis sincerely believed was part of the movie canon. Imagine his fury two years later when they used a different version of the Rhino for the sequel.

For shame. The Rhino is a biological creation, not a mechanical one. Yeah, yeah, he was mechanical in the Ultimate comics. Shut up. A man-rhino is so much more fun than a guy in a big spiky mech. Even if that guy is Paul Giamatti in his undies.

Respect the canon.

Again, happy birthday to me.
