Day 28 (April 16): The Raconteurs - Somedays (I Don't Feel Like Trying)
Is everyone on your social media somehow, bafflingly, doing a ton of stuff at the moment? Are they sudden sourdough experts or smashing their 5K personal best, when you were certain they didn't know how to do either of those things? Or - and this may hit closer to home - do you still have to revise for university exams as usual, in spite of the global pandemic lockdown thing?
Yeah, me too. The productivity imperative, now that we're all housebound but for the daily allotted exercise that Matt Hancock (not to be confused with Will Smith's character of Hancock, which he played in the film Hancock) bestows upon us, is real. And, and this may hit closer to home, sometimes there's no choice about that productivity, even if your motivation is down through the toilet.
Today's song of the day understands that grind. "Somedays (I Don't Feel Like Trying", a very self-explanatory" track from The Raconteurs' 2019 album Help Us Stranger, is a song that knows that all you want to do is curl under your weighted blanket, glug down coffee and, for instance, consider the numerous parallels between the failures of The Rise of Skywalker and the latest series of Doctor Who. There even a big exciting shouty bit at the end about how you're not dead yet.
That's really helpful - and this might hit close to home - especially when your postgraduate degree really needs that 2:1 so success is basically required and the university haven't clarified their safety net policy so your overall mark might still be highly contingent upon good performance on the day so there's honestly no excuses in spite of all the difficulties about revision because the libraries are shut so there's a real dearth of resources but you still need to read stuff.
General examples like that.
