Day 1 (January 1): Primal Scream - Movin' On Up
Sorry about that. I'm trying really hard to summon some pep for the start of this new year, but I gotta admit that I'm running a little low. Not for any valid reason, mind - I stayed up until 2.30am last night watching live basketball (in case you're wondering, basketball is going to be a main theme of this season, and the fate of the Toronto Raptors will influence how all of this blog goes) and I don't deal well with late nights. As I type this, I am so tired that I feel like I can see through walls.
Still, optimism, right? New year and all that. There are some things to be optimistic about this year. We're still in disease hell, but vaccines exist, and at some point this year I hope all of you feel that sweet, sweet jab of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 into your veins (or BNT162b2 if that's more your speed, I don't judge). That's something, right? Better than nothing. I really want to go to the movies again.
Today's song of the day, I hope, channels that vibe of possibly unfounded optimism that I'd like to go for. It's "Movin' on Up" from Primal Scream's 1991 Screamadelica, and hey, whaddya know, it's all about pulling yourself out of a funk and coming out stronger. That's cinematic parallels right there. Also, I'd be totally remiss if I didn't mention them riffs, which is vital to preserving this blog's sacred status as Actual Music Analysis. Them riffs, right?
See you tomorrow. Long way to go yet.
